Photographer of the month/February – Dustin Millard

Yooo!!! It’s that time again – Time for february’s installation of “Photographer of the month”. And this month we have a very talented man – So without further ado, ladies and gentlemen,  may I introduce Mr Millard…

“My name is Dustin Millard, I am 23 years old and just recently moved from Denver, CO to Austin, TX. As of now, I work as a freelance graphic designer, but I’ve been shooting photography since about age thirteen. Photography is actually a large influence on what caused me to become interested in design, as well.

The beauty of creating a composition from the elements around you, the very basics of photography, is very intriguing to me.
Since I began shooting, I have been interested in many different subject matters from riding to portraits landscapes to abstract subjects. These days I have been shooting a lot more lifestyle photos, which naturally includes a lot of riding as well.

Currently I shoot with a Canon G10, which is a full SLR minus the interchangeable lenses; it’s basically a point and shoot on steroids. I really, really love it, and I think that anyone who has one will agree. I’m working on getting a proper flash set up so that I can shoot more quality riding photos. Originally, I shot with a Canon AE-1 35mm, which was an amazing camera that I used for the first five or so years of my shooting career. I don’t shoot with film anymore, which is a shame, it’s just too costly. Plus, I think the best part about shooting film is being able to develop your own film and prints, which I do not readily have access to these days.

Aside from photography, I have been riding BMX for about ten years now, and have met so many great people and have had some of the best times of my life because of it. It has been a very large influence on the rest of my life, including my love for design, traveling, appreciating the chances for new experiences, and documenting all of those experiences through photography.

I would like to give a shout-out to Chris Smith for this interview, Clay Brown and Pusher for being a huge influence on the true spirit of BMX, the DSK for being the best crew in the world, Sunday for putting up with us here in Austin, all the trail builders in the world, and my family. Thanks for checking this out, everyone! Take it easy… if it’s easy take it twice… and if it’s sleazy send it this way!” – Dustin Millard
