Eric Rothenbusch, mars 2005: Valley Side est un petit coin tranquille au beau millieu du Royaume-Uni. C’est là que sévissent Chris Smith et ses amis. Ils y font du vélo, jouent avec des pétards, conduisent des voitures et se filment. Chris a donc monté une petite vidéo pour nous montrer tout ça et même un peu plus.
La vidéo commence avec Mark Theaker qui nous fait croire qu’il va se poser en axle à chacune de ses tantatives de flair. Il envoie aussi un 540 bien large et un handplant 180 en passant un volcano. La séquence suivante mélange des images de la Backyard jam à Telford et de la Level Vibes jam au Bike show avec entre autres Alex Jumelin et Phil Dolan. Nous avons ensuite droit à l’inévitable scène de destruction dont font les frais une magnifique Peugeot 205 et une Ford Sierra sur un air de Crusty. Le producteur de la vidéo a aussi droit à sa part juste après et il enchaîne les rails facilement. Suit une session street et du park. Les tricks ne sont pas hors du commun mais restent d’un bon niveau. Nick Hubard a ensuite réussi à me faire sourire avec son grind rigolo sur un curb où il utilise son repose pied avant et sa pédale pour glisser, la roue arrière restant en l’air. On enchaîne avec la Backyard jam de Derby qui se conclue sur un étonnant 360 whip to manual sur le volcano. La session suivante nous ramène du côté de la vallée avec la découverte du park local, The Library, et de ses riders locaux. 16 minutes après le début de la vidéo c’est déjà la fin mais comme sur un DVD, on a droit à des extras. Au final c’est une vidéo amateur sans prétention mais sympathique. Elle est disponible seulement en VHS dans les magasins de la Valley où en écrivant à Chris, ########@hotmail.com.

Bart de Jong, www.fatbmx.com, march 2005: Chris Smith (UK) sent in a VHS tape with xeroxed cover. The ValleySideStyle video had a lot of local footage in it. It seemed like a project where he filmed friends and decided to make a video out of it. Some of his friends do crazy stuff like jumping scooters, flipping cars over and play with fireworks. All good shit. Local rippers include: park rippers: Gaz Barka, Jim Mellor, Chazz and Chris Cornforth. Street rippers include Nick Hubbard, Chris Smith and Wrexam local Scott Ditchurch and a lad called Jack.
