Photographer of the month/May – Juan Pablo Arias Vargas (Papo).

It’s that time again; Time for another dose of photography, with this months “Photographer of the Month”; Juan Pablo Arias Vargas (A.K.A. Papo). I personally really enjoyed looking through Papos choice of “formats” – He really thought outside of the box; and delivered a diverse range of imagery. Really worth a look. And yes, yes, we’re still behind by a month. But again, it’s worth it…

Time to break the chains?

Words…

Color? Place? Story? Theme? Equipment? – Photography is much more than that! The most prized ingredient, is your own unique point of view – In a way, what you’ve seen, which nobody else has perceived in the same manner…

"Take your time setting up..."

Take the time setting up a shot; and then, in a spilt second, capture the scene, with all that atmosphere and emotion, all in a single image! A great feeling!

Diversity is key...

Provoke the critics! – Say what you have to say, through your work!

No time to be brassed-off!

I know a great thinker; he once sent me a letter, it read: “it’s a format thing”. To me, this means being able to say what I have to say, in a single image format.

Philosopher?

When photography and BMX are combined, it’s possible to achieve excellent versatility, diversity and creativity within the image format – In a sense, as a photographer you are ‘performing freestyle’.

Cristobal Amor Surfing...

Since my childhood, I’ve held-back many things I wanted to say – At the age of 20, I borrowed a camera and went for a journey around my city, photographing the places I’d experienced. For the first time, I felt able to talk without words. That day I was not alone – It was me and my BMX bike.

Background…

My name is ‘Juan Pablo Arias Vargas’; I’m 28 years of age. And married, with a 7 year old son.

Special moments...

Half-way through my career in publicity, I decided to take a break. During this time I studied photography for two and a half years. I studied at the ‘School of Photo & Arts’, in Chile. Here I gained my credentials for the ‘I.F.P.O’ (International Freelance Photographers Organization).

"Honey - I've shrunk the crowd again!!!"

I have now been doing professional photography for more than five years.

Communication is key...

I have worked with different brands and items.

"Classic BMX seat-post - My Home Studio"

Throughout all my different experiences, I enjoy sport the most (BMX Freestyle). I also enjoy product photography – Two very different themes, but in both cases a great challenge.
